Lettuce celebrate the ladies.

March 8, 2017

This year's International Women's Day theme is #beboldforchange.

This year I've made a pretty big change - I've gone vegan. I won't bore you with the details (in this post) but it's the single biggest way to change your health and the health of the planet.

I'd like to give some shout outs to some ladies I know and some I don't on this day.

In no particular order.

#1. The Ladies of the Land from the Women Who Farm Facebook page.

Number one because this is a plant-based blog. This page features some really cool stories about women around the world growing their thangs. It's not all hipsters either! You should like their page - like now. It's been my not-so-secret dream to run away and start a farm. I don't know that I would have ever said that aloud in my younger days but here I am.

#2. The ladies in my family.

If you know any other women in my family aside from me you'll notice we are not always quiet, demure ladies. On either side of my family tree. Shout out to the ladies older than me who taught me just to get shit done and not whine about it and a shout out to my generation trying to get our particular shit done. (And may I say we are all pretty brilliant at that shit.) Also shout out to the incredibly patient and loving men who have actually stuck it out with these ladies. In no condescending way at all - good for you!

#3. The ladies in my squad.

When I was younger I had a lot of platonic male friends because let's face it, dudes are easier to get along with sometimes. Each year that goes by I am more and more appreciative of the ladies in my life and how they really, really become the steady rocks in your life. How I couldn't live without them (for long,) and how much we should really cherish this support. And give it. We should always be pumping each other up and congratulating each other. Sometimes it's harder than other times and sometimes friendships wax and wane. Hold onto those ladies in your life that smile when you smile and cry when you cry and don't mind if you don't call them for four and half months and then randomly call them to go for a coff!

#4. This lady Ted Talker who's accent and message is terrific.

I first watched this Ted Talk on YouTube over a year ago (I have a little obsession with Ted Talks.) I fell in love with Caroline McHugh. Her outfit. Her accent. Her message of authenticity. She does really wonderful stuff with Fortune 500 businesses, politicians and

famous people in coaching leaders to be more honest and authentic versions of themselves. Thus creating companies that have amazing cultures and by default become hugely successful. (Something I strongly believe in.) Also she's pretty hilarious.

You should totally watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veEQQ-N9xWU
